Description
Jordan is one of Stellenbosch’s most consistent Chardonnay producers, known for combining classic Burgundian technique with Cape ripeness and precision. The Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2023 was aged for 9 months in a mix of 50% new and 50% second-fill French oak, with a small portion kept in vat for added freshness. Neal Martin notes its reduction, tension, and elegance — with hints of peach skin, apple and a stony, mineral backbone. Butter notes from the oak remain subtle. At under €20, this is serious value for a Burgundy-style Chardonnay with real pedigree.

| Review: | The 2023 Chardonnay Barrel-Fermented matured in 50% new and 50% second-fill French barriques for nine months, with a small amount that underwent aging in vat. No SO2 is added until this is taken out of barrel. There’s a clever reduction on the nose here. Real tension comes through with peach skin, Golden Delicious and light stony scents, quite Burgundian in style. The palate is very well balanced with a keen thread of acidity. It’s quite weighty in the mouth, showing just a touch of butteriness toward the finish thanks to the new oak, but that does not define this Chardonnay. Drink it over the next decade. |
