Description

Warwick Estate has long been a leader in Stellenbosch, known for their thoughtful blends and excellent vineyard management. “Three Cape Ladies” was South Africa’s first Cape Blend, a uniquely local category anchored by Pinotage. The 2021 vintage is deep, structured and spicy, built from dry-farmed bush vines and matured in 18% new French oak. The name is a nod to the women who shaped the winery’s history — and the wine is just as bold and elegant.

Review:The 2021 Three Cape Ladies is Pinotage dominant with 22% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is firm and structured with fresh, dusty red fruit layers and earthy undertones. Coming from dry-farmed bush vines atop the western-facing Pinotage block from the estate, the palate is firmer and rockier with a hearty expression that clocks in at 14% alcohol. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is spicy, delivering a broad expression of red fruit and potpourri essences over a food-friendly finish. Give it another year in the bottle to find its stride; it will be a pleasure for over a decade. Only 26,000 bottles were produced after the wine rested for one year in 18% new French oak barrels. Give it a try.
