Description

From the steep, south-facing slopes of the Escherndorfer Lump vineyard in Franken, Horst Sauer produces some of Germany’s most elegant and long-lived Silvaners. The 2023 Grosses Gewächs, crafted by Sandra Sauer, highlights the estate’s finesse-driven style: herbal, pear-laced aromatics meet a mineral, textured palate. It’s a wine that showcases the aging potential and pedigree of dry German Silvaner at its finest.

Review:Sandra Sauer's 2023 Am Lumpen 1655 Silvaner GG is deep, clear and herbal on the intense yet elegant and saline nose that indicates class and style and is reminiscent of ripe pears and lush sone fruits. Charmingly round and smooth on the palate, with fine, stimulating salinity and finessed mineral acidity, and salivating on the finish, this is a textural and persistent Lump Silvaner of exquisite quality. I'd keep it for at least 2-3 years, though. Tasted at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewächs in Wiesbaden in August 2024.
