Description

Auntsfield Estate is Marlborough’s first vineyard site, dating back to 1873. Revived by the Cowley family in the 1990s, the estate focuses on hand-crafted wines from a single hillside block in the Southern Valleys. This 2021 Pinot Noir captures the depth of the clay soils and cool maritime climate—red cherry and spice aromas lead to a silky palate with refined structure. Matured in French oak, this wine shows serious ambition, delivering a true sense of place and Burgundian elegance at an everyday price.

Review:The 2021 Single Vineyard Pinot Noir leads with star anise and blood orange, white peppercorns and tapenade on the nose. On the palate, the wine is very fine, populated by red and black fruit and spiced by layers of fennel, aniseed, cocoa and strings of hung deli meat. The 2021 season was cool, somewhat in line with the 2019 vintage tasted alongside this, and it shows a real coolness of character in the glass. This is a lovely wine, detailed and ductile, as they all are. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
