Description

Aphelion is a rising star in South Australia, known for redefining McLaren Vale through precision-crafted Grenache and its rarer cousin, Grenache Blanc. The 2021 Callow comes from select parcels in Blewitt Springs and shows just how well this southern Rhône grape thrives in the Vale’s Mediterranean climate. Winemaker Rob Mack, awarded Young Gun of Wine, brings a sensitive touch: 100% whole berries, no excess oak, just crystalline purity. Expect layered spice, green apple, and saline texture. This is an exciting white from one of Australia’s most dynamic micro-producers.

Review:Yummo. I tasted a number of Grenache Blancs while in McLaren Vale in late June and was impressed by their freshness and diversity. The variety seems to do well in the area, so I look forward to tasting more of these spicy wines when bottled! The 2021 Callow Grenache Blanc is layered with white pepper, clove bud and green apple skins, punctuated by cleansing saline acidity. Through the mid-palate and on through the finish, there is a cheesecloth, lanolin texture that elevates the wine. I like it very much. Impressive!
