Description
Chris and Suzaan Alheit have redefined South African white wine with their site-specific, old-vine Chenin Blancs. Cartology is their flagship — a Cape heritage blend sourced from dry-farmed bush vines across the Western Cape, with a strong Chenin base (90%) and a touch of Sémillon (10%) for added complexity. Whole-bunch pressed and aged on the lees for 12 months, the 2020 is intensely mineral and spicy, with depth and drive. Neal Martin (Vinous) calls it “simply outstanding,” praising its white tea, citrus, saffron and ginger complexity. One of the Cape’s most collectable whites, it’s a true benchmark for modern South Africa.

| Review: | The 2020 Cartology is blended with 7% Semillon and is essentially an amalgam of Alheit's vineyards, whole bunch pressed and kept on the lees for 12 months. It has a very different nose compared to the "Hereafter Here": more minerality, touches of white tea and broom filtering through the citrus fruit. The palate is very harmonious, spicy and focused, gently building in the mouth towards that finish with a dab of saffron and stem ginger. Wonderful persistence and just a wine that grabs you, demands attention. This is simply outstanding. |
